About Techie Brekkie

I call them Techie Brekkies and they take place in my classroom most weeks, on different days at 8.00am in the morning. Bianca calls them lunch and learn and they take place at lunch time. She has named herself the ‘DER T&L co-ordinator’. I called myself the E-learning and IWB coordinator. Whatever the name, we are both following the same principle that of determinedly coercing our co-workers to consider and implement more ICT into their teaching.I am sure we are not the only ones.

If like me, you are interested, inspired and passionate about new technologies and the potential they offer for learning to both teachers and students. And you want to help others to discover that passion too, then this blog is for you.

I have been running my techie brekkies for six months now and on the whole they have been a great success. This blog will chart the journey I have followed and be added to as I run new sessions. It will become a place where I post my session notes and where I delve into what has worked and what has not. For the staff at my school who cannot make it to my sessions, it will become the place they come to for session notes and ideas.

I offer all that I have done to all in the spirt of creative commons. I have learned so much from my network and my PLN, that my aim is to pay it forward, to give back and to inspire.

I call mine ‘ICTuesday’ and hold them at lunchtime – no more than 30min. per session. Just enough to give them a taster to take away to explore. But no matter what name we give them it’s a great way to share what we ourselves have learnt – from little things, big things grow!

Sure is an exciting time to be alive! I really appreciate the opportunity of going back to to the site to reflect on things we’ve learned. Thanks so much!

Excellent. I think your idea for the Techie Brekkie has been a great success. It takes off slowly at first but I think the impetus is building. It will be interesting for people to reflect on how far they have come a year from now. Perhaps they will be able to do that on their own blogs. How cool would that be.
It would be great to have some guest posts from others to see what is going on in other schools as well.
You get Extensive in the Criteria Log and Outstanding in the Effort box!

    Henrietta,
I just want to thank you for your wonderful site and the ideas that come along with it. We have adapted your concept at our school this term – in an attempt to Personalise the Professional learning of our staff and cater for varying skill sets and interests. We offer 3 session each Wednesday morning – staff choose which one they attend – sometimes people elect to lead, other times they use online resources to explore a tool. Early days yet, but so far so good. Your resources are invaluable. Struggling to find a catchy name for our sessions – Techie Brekkie is very cool
    Thanks again.

I am so glad I found your blog. I am fighting an uphill battle in my role as CURRIC-IT (curriculum IT) resource person at our school. I will be looking carefully at your experiences, and maybe I’ll have more luck.

I know it can be an uphill battle and often you will not feel appreciated but don’t give up :)

I won’t give up, now. I am inspired to know that others are in the same boat. And are succeeding. I have started a TAGS group (Talented and Gifted Students)for Yr6′s, so that I can get some enthusiasm from the ground up. I love the idea of short single topic PD. May even try thr “Techie Brecky” format.
